What it means
Botanical tattoos carry meaning quietly, which is most of their appeal. Blueberries read as:
- Small things that took time. A blueberry bush takes years before it fruits properly — a common reading for people marking something slow that finally worked.
- Abundance without excess. A cluster rather than a single bloom; several small good things instead of one big one.
- A place. Wild berries are strongly regional. A great many of these tattoos are really about a childhood landscape.

Why round fruit is harder than it looks

- Give the berries room to breathe. Berries touching each other on the stencil will merge into one shape later. The gap has to be wider than it needs to be today.
- Keep the design above about 6 cm. Below that there is nowhere to put the gaps, and a beautiful 4 cm branch becomes a grey smudge.

Line, dotwork, or a touch of colour
Pure fine line is the lightest and the fastest, and the most common request. Dotwork shading on the berries gives real volume and ages beautifully, because stippling spreads more gracefully than solid fill.
