Fine Line Tattoo in Hoi An

Looking for a fine line tattoo in Hoi An? Fine line tattooing is thin single-needle work — one crisp line, no heavy shading, no solid black fill. It is the style most travellers ask us for because it sits comfortably on a wrist, forearm or collarbone, heals quickly enough for a two-week trip, and reads as jewellery rather than a statement. Every piece in the album below was drawn and tattooed at our studio on Nguyen Hoang, across the bridge from the Old Town.

How much does a fine line tattoo cost in Hoi An?

Most fine line pieces at DanBam Tattoo are 2,000,000₫ to 3,500,000₫ (roughly $80 to $140). A design small enough to count as a mini — a short word, a small symbol, a single stem — is quoted at the mini rate instead, 800,000₫ to 1,200,000₫ (~$32 to $48), and large custom line work runs by the hour at 3,750,000₫ (around $150). Every price is fixed in writing before the needle comes out, and it includes single-use needles, stencil film and an aftercare kit.

Which bracket you land in is not settled by size alone, it is how much line there is. A three-word script across a forearm and a palm-sized botanical with forty separate stems can occupy the same width and still take twice as long apart. The full breakdown for every style is in our guide to tattoo prices in Hoi An.

How long does a fine line tattoo take?

Most fine line pieces take 45 to 90 minutes in the chair, which is short enough to fit into an afternoon between the Old Town and the beach. Before that there is a free consultation of about ten minutes, and then stencil placement — you see exactly where the line will sit, and we move it until it is right. Large custom line work runs longer and is booked by the hour rather than by the piece.

Will a fine line tattoo fade?

The honest answer is that a thin line will always soften more than a thick one, because there is less ink under the skin to begin with. Whether yours still reads clearly in ten years comes down to three things, and two of them are settled before we start: the needle and the depth it is worked at, the placement on the body, and the spacing between the lines.

  • Needle and depth. All our single needle tattoo work in Hoi An is done with 1RL and 3RL needles at a consistent depth. Too shallow and the line lifts off with the scab; too deep and it spreads into a blur under the skin. Depth control is the whole craft of this style.
  • Placement. Fingers, palms, the side of the foot and the inner wrist crease all rub, flex or shed constantly. Fine line does not hold well there, and we will say so rather than take the booking.
  • Spacing. Lines drawn too close together close up into a solid patch as they settle. Sometimes the fix is drawing your design 20% larger than you pictured it — which is a conversation we would rather have at the stencil stage than a year later.

If a reference you have brought us is going to blur, we will tell you before you pay, and show you what we would change.

What we tattoo in fine line

  • Botanical and floral. Lotus, roses, wild blossoms and fine foliage — see our small tattoo ideas for how little line it takes.
  • Script and calligraphy. Handwriting copied from a letter, quotes, dates and micro-lettering.
  • Micro realism. Small animal portraits and faces built from line and the lightest possible shading.
  • Hoi An motifs. Lanterns, tiled roofs and river waves drawn in single line — the local souvenir that is not a fridge magnet. Our lantern tattoo guide covers what the motif means here.
  • Red and coloured line. Line work does not have to be black; red ink behaves differently and suits some designs better.

Want something smaller still? Mini tattoos are the same precision at a size you can cover with a thumb.

When should I get a fine line tattoo during my trip?

Get it in the last few days of your trip, not the first. Hoi An is hot, humid and one street from the sea, which is the worst combination there is for a healing tattoo: no swimming, no sunbathing and no sea water for about two weeks after your session. Book at the end and you will not spend the holiday sitting out of the water.

Fine line has an advantage here — the wound is shallow and closes faster than heavy shading — but the rule does not bend for it. If your plans do not allow that, tell us and we will work around what you have left. Our aftercare guide for tropical weather covers the rest, including what a motorbike seat and a day of sun actually do to a fresh line.

Book, or just walk in

If you are looking for a fine line tattoo in Hoi An, a free consultation is the easiest way to check the placement, size and long-term suitability of your design. It takes about ten minutes: bring a reference or an idea, and you will leave with a price and a drawing plan. We are at 15 Nguyen Hoang, An Hoi, open daily from 9:00 to 22:00.

Fine line is quick enough that a same-day slot is often possible — see the walk-in guide — but a booking is the only way to be certain, especially in high season. What to know before your first fine line tattoo is worth five minutes if this is your first.
